Built Around the Deliverable

Start with what the project needs to know.

Eagle Surveying is a professional land surveying firm with a dedicated Reality Capture practice, headquartered in Denton, Texas, with a second office in Waco, serving projects statewide. Terrain, existing structures, progress, thermal patterns, quantities, and visual documentation are different datasets with different collection requirements. The collection plan should match the decision the information needs to support.

Eagle combines field survey control, UAS collection, terrestrial scanning, in-house processing, and project-specific QA/QC so the final data is delivered in the coordinate system, accuracy, and format established for the scope.

BARE-EARTH ACCURACY FROM THE AIR.

Aerial LiDAR Mapping

Drone-mounted LiDAR builds dense, survey-controlled 3D point clouds and records the bare-earth surface beneath vegetation, something conventional photogrammetry generally cannot accomplish in vegetated areas. Delivered as classified point clouds, terrain models, contours, breaklines, and CAD-ready surfaces.

Aerial Photogrammetry

Aerial photogrammetry reconstructs measurable site information from overlapping high-resolution drone imagery: georeferenced orthomosaics, digital surface models, and 3D photogrammetric models. On relatively open, unobstructed sites, scope-defined photogrammetric surface data or contours may also be appropriate. Processed in the project workspace with direct client access, so your team can measure and review without waiting on a static PDF.

Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS)

Ground-based 3D laser scanning captures the exact geometry of buildings, facilities, and structures in dense, close-range detail. Delivered as georeferenced point clouds and scan-to-CAD/BIM data tied to project control, ready for design, coordination, and verification.

Control + Processing

Measured data is only useful when the project team can trust where it is.

When a Reality Capture dataset is part of professional survey work, Eagle ties the measured data to established survey control and applies Texas RPLS oversight appropriate to the scope. Visual documentation and thermal services are delivered for their intended use and are not presented as survey measurements.

Processing workflows include DroneDeploy, LP360, YellowScan/CloudStation, Trimble Business Center, Trimble Perspective, and Trimble RealWorks, with CAD production in Carlson and Civil 3D as the scope requires.

Reality Capture FAQs

Common questions before the scope is set.

The individual service pages go deeper on LiDAR, photogrammetry, TLS, 360° documentation, thermal capture, progress monitoring, and volumetrics. These are the broader questions that come up before the collection method is selected.

What is Reality Capture?

Reality Capture is the process of digitally documenting a real-world site, structure, or facility using technologies such as aerial LiDAR, drone photogrammetry, terrestrial laser scanning, 360° imagery, and aerial thermal sensors. Depending on the method, deliverables may include LiDAR or laser-scanning point clouds, photogrammetric orthomosaics and 3D models, terrain or surface models, CAD-ready information, time-stamped visual documentation, and thermal imagery for engineering, construction, industrial, infrastructure, and development work.

What Reality Capture services does Eagle Surveying provide?

Eagle Surveying provides Aerial LiDAR Mapping, Aerial Photogrammetry, Terrestrial Laser Scanning, 360° Site Documentation and Virtual Walkthroughs, Aerial Thermal Imagery, Construction Progress Monitoring and Documentation, and Volumetric and Stockpile Analysis. The appropriate method depends on the site conditions, intended use, accuracy requirements, and deliverables needed by the engineer, contractor, developer, architect, owner, or public agency.

What deliverables do drone mapping services provide?

Depending on the agreed scope and collection method, aerial LiDAR deliverables may include classified point clouds, LAS or LAZ files, digital terrain models, contours, breaklines, and CAD-ready surfaces. Photogrammetry deliverables may include georeferenced orthomosaics, digital surface models, 3D photogrammetric models, and, on relatively open and unobstructed sites, scope-defined surface data or contours. Volumetric reports may be produced from the appropriate measured surface. Eagle Surveying establishes the coordinate system, accuracy, file formats, and final deliverables before collection begins.

What is a point cloud?

A point cloud is a digital collection of measured X, Y, and Z coordinates representing surfaces and features within a site, building, structure, or object. Point clouds may also include intensity values and color imagery. Eagle’s public point-cloud deliverables are produced through aerial LiDAR or terrestrial laser scanning and are used for existing-condition documentation, surface modeling, CAD production, BIM workflows, dimensional review, as-built documentation, and engineering design.

How much does a drone survey cost?

Drone-survey costs depend on acreage, site access, terrain, vegetation, airspace, required accuracy, survey control, collection method, processing requirements, travel, and final deliverables. Aerial LiDAR and photogrammetry have different production requirements, and other Reality Capture services are scoped separately. Eagle Surveying prices commercial and industrial projects from the actual scope rather than using a one-size-fits-all rate.

How long does a drone survey take?

The schedule depends on project acreage, weather, airspace, terrain, vegetation, site access, control requirements, and the complexity of the deliverables. Aerial collection can cover large areas efficiently, but flight planning, control, processing, classification, quality review, and final production still require time. Eagle Surveying confirms the anticipated field and delivery schedule at proposal, after reviewing the site and project requirements.

Why choose Eagle Surveying for Reality Capture services?

Eagle Surveying combines a dedicated Reality Capture practice with the control, field procedures, and professional oversight of a Texas land surveying firm. Our capabilities include multiple UAS platforms, aerial LiDAR, photogrammetry, terrestrial laser scanning, 360° documentation, thermal capture, GNSS control, DroneDeploy, LP360, YellowScan, Trimble Business Center, and Carlson workflows.
